In September 1882, the first unofficial celebrations of Labor Day took place as thousands paraded in New York City’s Union Square. Today, the holiday is observed on the first Monday in September--both to honor this historic march and provide a three-day weekend for millions of workers. Whether a construction worker, firefighter or medical personnel—today’s Doodle honors the professions of those on the frontline working hard day in and day out for our society.
