Hungary National Day 2023

On this day in 1848, a group of patriots, including poet Sandor Petőfi, gathered in front of the Hungarian National Museum to address the nation. They announced the 12 Points of the Pest Revolution – a list of demands for democratic rights, which is widely considered one of Hungary’s most important texts. Today, Hungarians wear tricolor badges called kokárdas that symbolize national pride. The red, white, and green ribbons share the colors of Hungary’s national flag, as seen in today’s Doodle. The colors represent the three national virtues: red for strength, white for faithfulness, and green for hope. Hungary's flag decorates buildings and homes throughout the country. The day’s main festivities take place at the Hungarian National Museum where local officials give speeches and the crowd recites Petőfi’s Nemzeti dal .
