On this day in 1943, the first session of the Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held. This event re-established the nation’s statehood and declared equality for everyone in the nation. The Bosnian and Herzegovinian flag, like the one waving in today’s Doodle, is raised to kick off the holiday. The country has a very diverse population, so its design intentionally omits religious, political, and ethnicity symbols. Instead, its blue, white, and yellow colors convey peace and neutrality.
