Colombia Independence Day 2024

Colombia’s freedom started with an uprising in Bogota that led to the formation of the People’s Junta and the signing of the Act of the Revolution. Today, the flower shop that started it all is the official Museo de la Independencia, which many people visit on the holiday. Colombians gather throughout the streets to watch parades march by. Soldiers proceed in groups, often carrying firearms, a musical instrument, or the nation’s flag. Traditional folk music fills the air and dancers show off their fancy footwork while others play games like tejo. When it is time for dinner, it's common for friends and family to come together for a meal of ajiaco , arepas , or bandeja paisa .
