Google Dooles 06.08.2024 13:00  Date: August 6, 2024 Today’s Doodle celebrates Jamaica’s Independence Day. On this day in 1962, the country officially passed the Jamaica Independence Act, declaring sovereignty from the United Kingdom. Jamaican Independence Day is more like Jamaican Independence Week. Celebrations kick off on August 1st for Emancipation Day and pick up during the Independence Festival. Kingston, the country’s capital, hosts a huge parade with upbeat reggae music, military members, and Jamaican pride. And of course traditional food like jerk chicken or ackee and saltfish are savored between family and friends. As seen in today’s Doodle, the country’s flag features a gold diagonal cross that creates two triangles of black on the sides and two triangles of green at the top and bottom. Many represent their national pride by wearing black, green, and gold clothing throughout the celebratory week. Happy Independence Day, Jamaica! Location: Tags:
