others reshape it to suit their own political convictions. Jiří
Mádl falls into the second category. His film Vlny
is an attempt to rewrite Czechoslovak communist history, an
approach that can unfortunately come as no surprise after 35 years of
inadequate historical education and unbridled anticommunism in the
Czech public sphere.
