Google Dooles 31.08.2024 15:00  Date: August 31, 2024 Today’s Doodle celebrates Trinidad and Tobago Independence Day! On this day in 1962, Trinidad and Tobago declared independence from Britain, and the national flag was hoisted for the first time. The twin-island Caribbean nation was one of the first in the region to gain independence from Britain and many festivities take place annually to commemorate the occasion. Several parades make their way across the country with the largest one marching through Queen’s Park Savannah. People line the streets as military forces escort the president in a vibrant procession accompanied by lively drums and overhead planes. Fetes and other outdoor performances come alive as Trinbagonians groove along to the melodies of the local genres of music known as soca and calypso. In the evening, a National Awards ceremony is held where local heroes are honored for their contributions to the country. The night transforms into daylight as fireworks illuminate the sky to bring the celebrations to an end. Happy Independence Day, Trinidad and Tobago! Location: Tags:
